From graduation to formal dresses and even a pair of pants, it has truly been fun to leave for an event, or even a stroll, in something I whipped together, often the night before, with fabric I was saving for the most opportune moment. Of my favorite "opportune moments" was being photographed by paparazzi in one of my designs outside of the late Karl Lagerfeld's final show for Paris Fashion Week, and I will never forget saying, "yes, you can take a picture." Tied for first was when I went to a portfolio critique at the Fashion Institute of Design and Technology in New York City during my junior Fall of High School, and stood there as one of the professors call over another just to point to me and say in a quiet voice, "she made that."
